Timm Aeromold Trainer, MODEL PT-220-C, made by Timm Aircraft Corp., in California, is sturdily built to withstand the tough daily grind of student instruction. It is particularly famous as the most responsible and sensitive flying trainer among both students and instructors. The PT-220-C is the first and only plastic-bonded-plywood training plane ever awarded a CAA Type and Production Certificate, and has been approved for primary and secondary training in Civil Pilot Training Programs. It has unequaled strength, is aerodynamically clean, and maintenance costs are negligible. All repair work is made simple by being easily accessible, and surface damages can be completed within a few hours. The PT-220-C receives its efficiency from a 7-cylinder 220 hp Continental engine, producing a top speed of 135 mph, and cruising at 115 mph. Its wing span is 36 ft., length 25 ft. 5 1/2 in., height 10ft. 8 in., and has a gross weight of 2725 Ibs., of which 785 Ibs. is useful load. A new type Navy dive bomber, which is at least fifty miles faster than any present type, is driven by one of the most powerful engines ever installed in a Navy plane. Built by Douglas. in EI Segundo, Cal., it was designed especially for huge Essex class carriers. This BT2D was a single seater and in combat it is covered by fighters, but it is also self-protecting in the fact that it is highly maneuverable for a craft of its weight. In dives from a service ceiling it has reached a speed of 500 mph and has exceptional climbing facilities and a maximum range of over 1500 miles. The Navy found the BT2D an excellent performer, incorporating the latest safety features for pilot protection. The newest thing in gliders is the Laister-Kauffmann BABY ALBATROSS. A sleek looking single place high wing monoplane, of wood construction, the BABY ALBATROSS is 19 ft. 2 in. in overall length, with a wing span of 44 ft. 4 in., and a wing chord of 48 inches. The airfoil is a modified Gottingen 535 at root. The BABY ALBATROSS has a wing loading of 3.5 Ibs. per sq. ft.; weight empty 250 Ibs., and a gross weight of 450 Ibs. Sinking speed is 2.25 ft. per second and gliding angle 20 to 1. It has an airplane towing speed up to 65 mph.
