A newcomer to the field of light planes is the Cessna "120" and "140" powered by an 85 hp Continental engine, producing a top speed of over 125 mph, setting higher standards for comfort and efficiency. The outstanding feature is a patented safety landing gear. Other features are: large full sized newly improved brakes, steerable tail wheel and sound insulation. Both the "120" and "140" have all-metal fuselages and control surfaces, with fabric covered wings, the "140" being equipped with luxurious interior cabin trim, starter, generator and flaps at an additional cost of $500. This new Cessna will make an ideal training plane and it cruises at I 00 mph, with a range of 4 hours. The "120" is priced at $2495. Both models have a rate of climb of 680 fpm, and a landing speed of 41 mph. Gross weight is 1450 Ibs., fuel capacity 125 gals. Wing span is 32 ft. 10in., length 21 ft. 6 in. Appearing before the public is Luscombe's high performance light plane, a low-wing, all-metal monoplane designed to carry one person. Powered by a four-cylinder air-cooled Continental engine, rated at 65 hp, it gives forth a top speed of 135 mph and cruises at 122 mph, using 4 gallons of gasoline per hour while cruising, which is less than the fuel consumption of an automobile. Designated the MODEL 1, and conceived and built in Luscombe's Dallas plant, this trim plane has a fuselage of aluminum stressed-skln construction with few bulkheads. It has a fabric-covered, internallybraced metal wing and metal-covered control surfaces. A bubble-type cockpit canopy and wingroot fillets are employed for maximum streamlining effect. It is equipped with fixed-landing gears with oleo shock struts. Overall length is 17 ft. and wing spread is 25 ft., with a gross weight of 845 Ibs. The Jarvis VJ-21, a light airplane with a cruising speed of 110 mph on a 65 hp. engine, has a top speed of 135 mph. It lands at 40 mph and has a cruising range of 400 miles. The Jarvis VJ-12 has suitable characteristics as a personal airplane for every business man, assuring safety and ease of handling. A smart two place, side by side, incorporating many principles of a glider, it has a wing span of 45 ft. and an overall length of 24 ft. The VJ-21 can climb at 700 fpm, and takes off on 960 ft. to clear a 50 ft. obstacle. Made of all-metal monocoque construction, it is durable and economical, and affords easy access to the comfortable cabin. The main landing wheel is 2 inches in front of the most forward center of gravity position. The VJ-21 being a pusher type airplane, has the engine mounted on top of the wing. Priced about $2500. |
